The
house is positioned in the Pyrenees
mountains, in the southern section of the departement
of Haute-Garonne.
The region of Haute-Garonne itself is
incredibly diverse, north of the mountains one can find rolling
vinyards, a rich, green hill country, with ancient castles and
fortresses sitting atop many of the foothills. The entire area is rich in history, from the sunny plains of the Lauragais, through to the hills of the Commingus, everywhere reveals historical treasures, both religious and architectural. 110 km north-east is Toulouse, or "The pink City" as its often referred to, the regions capital (4th biggest city in France,) itself being a treasure trove for the lovers of renaissance culture, history, art, and architecture. Furthermore, Toulouse is a university city with an active cultural life and renowned for its exceptional cuisine and youth culture. Lourde sits just a short drive north of the Spanish border .(20 km) Lerida is the next city there, with cheap shopping opportunities and the popular ski station Baqueira. Altitude 600 m. Luchon (20 km) offers its famous thermal springs, spa, casino, deltaplane and other activities. Ski resorts: Le Mourtis (20 km), Superbagnères (40 km) and Baqueira (20 km) on the Spanish side. Very close to Lourde: Loures Barousse (6 km) or the charming Saint Beat offer all necessary shops and supermarket. Barbazan (6 km) one can find a popular casino. In many places around: Fishing, Rafting, Canoe, Kayak, & Hydrospeed are available. Montréjeau (15 km) is well known for it´s golf course. A drive to the east will take you to the Mediterranian sea (250 km), the same distance to the west will take you to the Atlantic coast (highway in both directions). |
